Shanell
Johnson
On 22 May, the Prime Minister received permission from HM The King to dissolve Parliament and call a General Election for today, Thursday 4 July. The polls are now closed and we eagerly await the results of who will form the next Government.
This snap election required action to be taken, and on 7 June I confirmed my submission at Waltham Forest Town Hall to stand as the Independent candidate for my home constituency, Leyton and Wanstead.
This campaign has been for you, the residents and communities of Leyton and Wanstead - you have rallied around me with unconditional love, support and encouragement. Over this campaign, over 150 people have come together to spread a positive message of community, hope, peace and solidarity. Together, we can unite to make real, positive change.
Through the power of people and community spirit, we have; delivered over 100,000 leaflets, engaged with community events, 4 hustings and held 3 People’s Assemblies for you to give a direct mandate on what I should stand for, if elected to Parliament as your local independent candidate.
I am humbled to have spent this campaign engaging with the communities, residences and businesses of Leyton & Wanstead. Receiving endorsements and support from a number of organisations, including; The Muslim Vote, Assemble, Collective, Redbridge Action Group, Redbridge Matters, 4 Day Week Campaign, Transform, Caribbean Labour Solidarity and The Climate Party. This is a grassroots movement and whatever the outcome of the 4 July General Election, I will continue to stand up for local voices and campaign for accountability in politics.
I would like to personally thank everyone who came out to vote for me on Thursday 4th July, from a standing start to 9.5% of the vote - I am forever grateful.
From the very bottom of my heart, I want to say, thank you.
Shanell Johnson, Cllr
